Golden Post: Keeping it going in this newly-evolved environment

By Hannah Tsuji and Meghna Sarawat @goldenpostagency

The current situation we’re all in right now has made it pretty difficult to continue with normal life. Difficult, but not impossible. As creatives, hobbyists and entrepreneurs, we gain inspiration from many many things, and being out and about, connecting with people, experiencing things are some of the main sources of that inspiration.

However, with the current health climate, the majority of the world is being forced to stay home (and safe) and find inspiration within our direct environment. It’s not easy and getting anything productive or creative done, seems almost impossible.

That’s why we have been catching up with some brilliant individuals who are sharing their experience during this pandemic and how they have been managing their business, hobbies and other activities, whilst being at home and adapting to this new way of life.

Read on to find out how the team at Golden Post have been staying motivated during the past few crazy months!

At a time like this, it’s only natural to be dragging your feet to the kitchen to eat yet another meal because it’s 2:30pm and you need an after-lunch pre-snack, snack. You then slowly make your way back to watch an episode or two (or three) and then you finally tell yourself that you are ready to be productive. There seems to be no spark for inspiration.

It’s normal, we are all on the same boat as we transition from a go-go world to what feels like a standstill of time. But during this time, it’s important for you to take that time to slow down and relax – there’s no rush. Find comfort in knowing that everyone is going through the same thing. Eventually, you will feel a lot more relieved and be able to press that play button on life, getting back to some kind of normality.

Starting our day with getting ready and not staying in our PJ’s – believe us, it took a couple of weeks to start this because PJ’s are just oh so comfy.

Creating a routine and a schedule for your week is a great way to feel prepared for those surprise zoom calls and is a big motivator to get work done. Our schedules look pretty similar to one another, both waking up and logging on to work at around 10A.M. and logging off at 6P.M., followed by dinner and a family walk to end off the night. This has been great because we feel productive in our work, while making sure we take breaks throughout to be active and move our bodies, hydrate and not stare at a screen all day.

On the weekends, we differentiate our days by giving ourselves some well-deserved time off.  Sleeping in for a slow start to the day, followed by a long leisurely run or intense workout, time for a new hobby or two before then preparing for a BBQ – which we have been doing most weekends when the weather is nice.

At a time like this, there has been a lot of opportunities to engage in weekly networking sessions or online extracurriculars. These weekly meetings or even weekly chats with your friends can help you keep track of time and gain valuable human connection. Filling your time up with something valuable, that is not just secluded to yourself, will help the time go by and keep you accountable to other people. You have been given the gift of time, take advantage of it!

Because life is now so different from what we are used to, we think that creating a new routine will bring a touch of normalcy to life. This can help you stay motivated and give you a chance to do things that you’ve always wanted to do. Run, learn photoshop, get your boaters license or try your hand in making boeuf bourguignon.

Whatever it may be, you have the spark to ignite yourself to complete tasks and tick off the things on your stay-at-home bucket list, things that you never thought you would have the time to do.

Well… now’s your chance to do it!
